Do you have piano students who would like to gain performance experience in a friendly, informal setting?
Humber St Piano Sessions invites piano students to take part in Hull’s first celebration of Piano Day.

On Thursday March 28th 2024, Humber St Piano Sessions will host a day of free events and performances celebrating the piano and the people who play it.

This event is part of the worldwide Piano Day movement, which has been growing since 2015.

It takes place on the 88th day of the year to match the number of keys on the piano:

Piano students are invited to take part in this event, either as part of a mini piano trail (10am-10pm) along Humber St or with a slot in the afternoon (1-4pm) as part of the Piano Student Showcase. All ages, levels, styles welcome!

To take part in the Piano Student Showcase, students can just turn up. But if the event turns out to be popular and they want to guarantee the chance to perform, please email humberstpianosessions@gmail.com to reserve a spot in one of the following sessions:

• Session A: 1-1:30pm
• Session B: 1:30-2pm
• Session C: 2-2:30pm

• Session D: 2:30-3pm
• Session E: 3-3:30pm
• Session F: 3:30-4pm

We’re looking for short performances of 1 piece (or two shorter pieces) lasting up to 5 minutes. Or, if you have advanced students who are ready to performer for longer, up to 10 minutes.

From 5pm, there will be a series of performances by some of the best artists working in the region and beyond.

The day will culminate in the world première of a new piece by the exceptional Zoe Rahman, commissioned in partnership with Hull Jazz Festival especially for Hull and for this Piano Day celebration. Other featured artists include classical piano duo from Hull and Hedon Graziana Pressice and Amy Butler, fearless improvising pianist Matthew Bourne; neo-classical, skewed-pop pianist and vocalist t l k; and ambient, lofi obsessed collaborators
